Part OneHow has your project contributed to your workplace? For my project, I worked on graphic design elements for upcoming events, informationals, and for the use of party in general. The Republican Party of San Diego hosts an annual party for donors and contributors. I utilized photoshop and various other programs in order to produce a layout for the nametags that will be used by the staff, volunteers, and interns that will be operating the event. As well as creating all of the nametags, I worked on graphics that will be laid across many of the tables that will advertise the selected cocktail of the evening. Many of my major contributions to my workplace have been for the Lincoln-Reagan annual dinner. I have also created many images and miscellaneous other graphics for many variant purposes. Some of my images have gone to some of the websites; some to social media, and some for the personal use of the office. What did you learn about your own work through the internship project? I learned that I have more knowledge and skills when it comes to graphic design than I had previously imagined. I have not considered a career in digital image editing, though I have the ability and capacity to pursue it as a potential future endeavor. I learned that there are many career opportunities that I have not considered nor been aware of until recently. A large take-away from this experience so far is that I should always leave my mind open and not limit my opportunities by planning out a certain future. Every plan is potentially subject to change so I have learned to remain flexable when it comes to work, the future, and skills that I may possess that I am not aware of yet. Part twoWhat qualities or characteristics did you see in the people around you that you want to develop in yourself? Why?
Most of the people that I work with are incredibly sociable, amiable, conversational, and smart. I am constantly holding interesting discussions way beyond the parameters of small talk that delve into deep and sometimes controversial topics. The knowledge of each person at my internship when it comes to politics or history, is staggering and seemingly boundless. This makes for countless hours of intelligent conversations. I would love to develop more interpersonal social skills and to work on improving my knowledge of history, politics, and significant global current events. How might internship influence the direction of your life? Within the first two weeks, I was baffled at how many positive connections that I had aquired. Quickly after I began the internship at the Republican Party of San Diego County, I was given support and resources that I would never have had access to before. I have met prominent politicians of San Diego and have gained a lot of knowledge about events and opportunities to continue to make connections with prolific and important figures in this city. In the future, I look towards expanding my opportunities and base of people that I know. There are many jobs that would interest me in the field of politics that I had not previously considered or known about. I will begin to go more "with the flow" of life and be an opportunist rather than forcing a career path. Instead I will use the resources that are avaliable to me or ones that I can potentially aquire with hard work and continued internships with The Party. |
