Matias, Cole. Thursday 5:00 PM
Cole worked at Janus Mortgage doing computer work which entailed helping people file for bankruptcy. It was a real estate and mortgage company and his project was to find clients to lead and assist. Two things that stuck with him was how important focus and attention to detail is when it comes to a job based around accuracy and computer work. How did you make a meaningful contribution to your workplace?
The videos that I am working on are improved versions based on original templates that needed work. My revisions and formatting make all the videos link together in a seamless fashion which make them more professional and presentable in any setting. The amount of videos I am working on accumulates into a large contribution to the company. How did your project go from an idea or inspiration to a final product? The original instructional videos were created by one of the members of the media team. Their videos were the foundational building blocks with which I based my work off of in the initial stages of the revision process. I sat down in two to three meetings with members of the company who all had visions of how the films should evolve. I worked well with taking notes, gaining feedback and critique, and incorporating my creative ideas along with their necessary aspects that they required. What qualities or characteristics did you see in the people around you that you want to develop in yourself? Why? Everyone I worked with was incredibly direct and honest. I appreciated the relaxed attitudes that supported and motivated me. Everyone was friendly as well as solution-oriented and quickly worked to address any issues as soon as possible in regards to situational complications such as poor sound equipment, broken SD cards, and uncooperative actors and colleagues. The logical and straightforward mindset is one I greatly identify with and would like to improve. How did your view of life beyond high school change or develop during your time as an intern? I feel that I have recognized my digital/multimedia skills are important this day in age and could be used as a personal tool to work on freelance work on the side. I enjoyed my independence in this internship, the ability to manage my own schedule and set my own work hours. I found that very appealing because I am attracted to the freedom it entailed. I aspire to continue working on jobs quite like this one. I also gained some valuable insight on what it takes on the business side of a company like the one that I worked with. Overall, I feel that it solidified what I want to do in the future.
My internship project is the production of a video series that will be utilized by BCK Programs in an educational setting within the program. The nature of the videos emphasize instruction and uniformity. I am using Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and iMovie. Part of my project is going out and filming certain videos at the locations required, gathering B Roll and audio. The final product will be a small series of a collection of short, professional instructional videos for the SWPPP internship teaching programs.
What strikes me about the workplace is how widespread the company extends. Working in multiple schools from multiple school districts is a surprising aspect of the internship, due to the fact that a portion of the multimedia work I conduct and work with is from my personal computer. I enjoy the friendliness and honesty of my colleagues. The communication is straight-forward, blunt, and assistive. What strikes me most about the work that I am doing is the significance of minor details. Small elements must be uniform across all of the videos I work on. The attention to details is an incredibly important part that can not afford to be overlooked. I am looking forward to the independence and creative control I will have. My goal is to produce the vision of my mentors for the benefit of the company and I am proud to be able to incorporate my artistic design in this way. I wonder where it will take me.
BCK Programs, LLC, an environmental education and consulting firm. I will be working on producing a instructional video series for the company's programs. Every day I will be editing or filming footage for this project. I look forward to the independence and ability to utilize my media production skills.
